After raising over $10,000 for Livestrong in 2011, 14-year old Luke Neafus and his supportive family took on the daunting task in 2012 of organizing a unique ride in the panhandle of Oklahoma while raising another $10,114 for cancer research. Well, thankfully they are doing it again this year, September 20-22, with Luke’s 5-line Gran Fondo which starts out from Black Mesa State Park. This ride has four distances of 40 miles, 60 miles, 95 miles and the full 120 miles. The longest distance will touch five state borders in one day while enjoying some unique and beautiful scenery rarely experienced by cyclists due to the lack of services and population in this neck of the woods. If you’ve always dreamed of seeing some truly unique Oklahoma scenery, this is your chance.
At our April 2nd meeting (7:00 PM at Grace Methodist Church), Luke Neafus and his family will talk about Luke’s amazing cycling story, the challenges and rewards of organizing a ride, and will answer any questions you have about this unique event. You can see a summary about the ride here. Please note that Luke’s 5-line Gran Fondo is extending the deadline for the early registration until April 5th to allow you to hear in person about this interesting ride. Hope you will join us!
Also, this will be your last chance to sign up for our OBS Take Me Out to the Ballgame Ride on April 14th. Tickets are only $8.00 and you can pay with cash or credit card at the meeting.
