With a full-service lodge, many cabins and several campgrounds, Lake Murray State Park and Resort is a great place to spend a cycling weekend. Pack your bathing suit, order a picnic lunch from the resort and set off for a leisurely day of sightseeing on your bike. The 25-mile loop around the lake takes you by countless beaches, the historic Tucker Tower, campgrounds and secluded spots where you can swim or simply lie back and watch the wildlife. With few hills and lots of places to stop and rest, this route provides a great time for the most casual of cyclists and is recommended for cyclists making their first tour. For those seeking a greater challenge, there are miles of rural county roads through the beautiful Arbuckle Mountains which begin just north of Ardmore. Along this route, one can visit Gene Autry’s original Flying A Ranch and the town that was named after him. Also visit Turner Falls with its natural caves and dramatic waterfalls, including a 77-foot fall into a natural swimming pool. Farther north, just outside of Sulphur, the Chickasaw National Recreation Area’s beauty awaits cyclists with a nature, scenic campgrounds, waterfalls and trails.
